Education Africa and Sustainable Architecture
An Education Africa Project

Teddy Bear

In 2005 Education Africa appealed to S²Arch for assistance. As a result, under the supervision of Anna Heringer, the Kunstuniversität Linz completed the Tebogo Project which involved building facilities for mentally and physically handicapped children at the Tebogo Home in Orange Farm. In 2004, the home was partially destroyed by fire and desperately needed to be repaired and upgraded to cater for the needs of the children. So, in 2005, students from this university did this very effectively, using locally available building materials.

Beginning at the end of July 2006, the university plans to build at the "Teddy Bear" preschool in Orange Farm to provide a suitable facility for Mrs Thembi who currently runs the pre-school out of tin shacks, and takes care of 145 children who live in extremely impoverished conditions.

The Teddy Bear Preschool will be part of the Masibambane College Outreach Programme.
