Masibambane College is an Education Africa-initiated project which was made possible through financial support from the City of Vienna, Austria. The college comprises a core school facility and a community outreach centre. In addition, Austrian businesses at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002 made funds available to build a Science Environmental Centre.
Since the construction of the first phase of the school in 1996, Masibambane College has, as a result of an ongoing development and expansion programme, become a fully functional primary school with over 600 students. In addition, the school's first Grade 1 class of 1997 (which consisted of 14 pupils) has now graduated to high school, which means that since January 2004, the college has no longer consisted of a primary school only, but is now able to accommodate classes for Grade 8 and Grade 9 pupils as well. This is a school which is literally growing each year until such time as the current Grade 9 class reaches Grade 12 - their final year of formal schooling!
But there is more to Masibambane College than this. In order for the community to take pride in the school, it was necessary to make it a centre of community activities. For this reason, Masibambane College has also developed a highly successful outreach programme, which means that its facilities are made available to the people of Orange Farm and are able to contribute significantly to the upliftment of the community.
Masibambane College is a partner school of St John's College, a leading institution of learning in Johannesburg. The school's commitment to Masibambane College is towards project sustainability and long-term educational growth through the raising of academic standards.
Masibambane College has become a beacon of hope for Orange Farm and will continue in its quest to improve the education - and thus the living standards - of the community it serves.

Community outreach
Community outreach is an integral part of Masibambane College, and the school takes great pride in the many outreach programmes it has initiated and is currently running. These include:
- Adult basic education. There are still many thousands of adults living in the Orange Farm area who have never been taught to read or write. The school's basic education courses offer literacy classes as well as classes in basic life skills such as sewing and vegetable gardening.
- The pupils of Masibambane College support a feeding scheme for Aids orphans and for Tebogo - a home for mentally handicapped children.
- Teacher development programmes to assist teachers in the Orange Farm area in the fields of mathematics and science teaching. This is done in partnership with St John's College. Education Africa's commitment to Masibambane College Masibambane College was initiated by Education Africa, which was responsible for sourcing the funding for all phases of the school's development. Education Africa is committed to continue to assist Masibambane College in every way possible.
